Meet the seven-year old boy who is setting the soccer world on fire
Running a blog of this nature, which covers news from all the major and professional leagues including NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA, as well as MLS and FIFA, is obviously quite time consuming. While I have a pretty detailed format that I like to follow, occasionally an article pops up that I can’t help but mention. One such article came across my desk this morning when ESPN reported that Real Madrid signed SEVEN-YEAR OLD Leonel Angel Coira.
Coira’s signing exploits the tactics of top national and club teams, as they routinely scoop up youngtalent as early as possible to avoid paying huge transfer fees whentheir potential blossoms. And the Spanish soccer power didn’t have tolook as far as Argentina to find this gem.
Coira’s family relocated toMadrid 3 years ago after his father, Miguel, was offered a job inthe Spanish capital. Miguel Coira coaches a local youth club that features his son Leonel, and this is wherehe first caught the eye of a Madrid scout.
The7-year-old was then invited to a trial with Madrid and signed a one-yearcontract with the club’s youngest team, the “Benjamin” squad, made upof mostly under-9 players. Madrid acted fast in making an offer to Coira because Atletico Madrid reportedly was also pursuing the youngster.
Donning the same floppy hair and nickname “Leo” of his idol Lionel Messi, everyone needs to keeep in mind that he is still just a child, albeit an extraordinary child. Hie dream is to follow in the same footsteps as his idol and join Barcelona from the Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys as a teenagerand ultimately win the World Player of the Year award as well!
While it till take some time before fans ill see Leonel Coira in action, we have some great seats available for soccer games of all types including MLS Cup tickets!
