The brackets are all set, and fans hoping to secure East Regional tickets now know that the road to the Final Four out of this quarter of the bracket runs through the Indiana Hoosiers. Despite a loss to Wisconsin in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament, the Hoosiers did enough throughout the regular season to earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Tom Crean has done a great job with this group, and few teams boast a better pair of players than Indiana. Center Cody Zeller came into the season with a ton of hype and has done nothing to disappoint. Zeller leads IU in both scoring and rebounding, with 16.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. While his shooting percentage has gone down slightly from last season, he is still making over 57 percent of his attempts, and his 75.5 percent mark from the foul line is particularly impressive for a 7-footer.
As impressive as Zeller has been all season, however, the real star of the show for the Hoosiers has been Victor Oladipo. The 6-foot-5 guard/forward has been one of the most dynamic players in the country this year, and is among a handful of contenders for national player of the year honors. Oladipo has improved markedly on the offensive end this year, shooting nearly 60 percent from the field, including an impressive 44.3 percent mark on three-point shots. He is also Indiana’s second-leading rebounder, with 6.4 boards per contest, and has chipped 2.1 assists per game as well. However, it is on the defensive end where Oladipo has truly made his mark, as he has become arguably the best defender in the nation. He consistently has guarded the opponent’s top perimeter scorer, making it very difficult for opposing teams to get to the rim. With a supporting cast that also features double-digit scorers in Christian Watford and Jordan Hulls, the Hoosiers have all the necessary pieces to make a deep run in the East Regionals.
